The Big Apple Circus

big apple circus Guess who started The Big Apple Circus? That's right - jugglers! It was started by Paul Binder and Michael Christensen who were two American street jugglers.

They put together an act and traveled around Europe performing. While they were there, they also participated in a French circus. By the time they came back from Europe they were ready to start their own circus.

Their time in Europe probably gave them the idea for the "one-ring" circus, a European tradition (this is great because every seat is not further than 50 feet away from the ring!) The circus performed their first show in the summer of 1977 and Michael and Paul were the clowns/jugglers.

These days, Michael and Paul are not the circus jugglers. The circus features the LaSalle Brothers. They combine gymnastic talent with some pretty impressive juggling tricks like stealing five clubs back and forth.

He does a unique jar juggling act where he performs feats of balance on his head with a jar that looks like it would be way to heavy for my head. Of course in addition to jugglers the circus features all kinds of other performers. There are all kinds of acrobatic and comedic acts as well as animal trainers.

Each year there is a new show, so you can go to this circus every year and see new performances and performers. The circus tours around the US. You can search tour dates, locations and buy tickets here.
